Does the thin card you put over the iphone sim unlock it?

Key Clicks are still happening when set to OFF

So I upgraded to 2.2 finally a day or two ago. Ever since I have noticed I am having those annoying key clicks happen. I can't stand the sound of them and it is driving me crazy. So far I have noticed it is happening in SMS and the Phone Dialer. I have checked the setting and it is definitely off and I have tried turning it on/off but it still isn't working. Does anyone know what I might have installed or what else may be causing this to happen? I would really like to get this dealt with.





If not, is there any chance of me downgrading from 2.2 to 2.1? This is a problem I really do not like. Or I guess, is there a place where I can delete the key click sound file? Or replace it with a blank file?

iPhone 3G plastic backs are cracking......

So… uh… I've been reading a few horror stories of unwated hairline cracks on the White iPhone 3G Back Case.

I have a white iPhone, and I have not seen any sign of cracks, and I've had it since July 11. I have a replacement iPhone coming my way, and it's another white, and i'm wondering if I should exchange it for a Black one? :/

I'm 95% sure that I couldn't see standard messaging plans before. Is this a sign that Apple/AT%26amp;T may relent with the MMS issue? I'm probably thinking too much, and been too optimistic.

Push Personal Domain Emails

I have been trying to find information of how to push my personal domain email address to my iphone. I would prefer a free solution. I do have a MobileMe account and it pushes very nicely to my iphone, but I can't get my own personal domain email address to push to my iphone. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

WiFi Question

I have a dumb question but I am curious...





When my 3G iPhone is on WiFi, what does the phone use (network-wise) for making voice calls?





I'm guessing that's dependent on what type of network coverage your in (i.e GSM or 3G), but I've never been able to tell. I've noticed, however, that using WiFi even when in an EDGE only coverage area that my phone doesnt interfere with my computer speakers or anything else when making or receiving a voice call...





I know dumb question but I've not been able to figure this out myself

Can you still go to Apple and buy a 2G phone?

I know the 2G has not been sold by AT%26amp;T/ Apple for months but if I went to an apple store and asked if I could simply buy a 2G version (i.e. 4, 8, 16GB etc) could I buy one without having a one to exchange?





I know that I would not be getting it with accessories and I would only be getting the phone. But is it possible ? or are they only for warranty replacements

Hey, could you guys explain to me how this macworld works? I understand that its tomorrow, but how long does it run for? Trying to figure out if they will be releasing a firmware update before i sell the iphone. Im just a bit confused how this works. iPhone 3G Replacement?

Hey all,





I am curious to know if someone can tell me what would constitute an in-warranty iPhone 3G replacement at the apple store?? I have had issues with my iphone for several months, but havent gone to the Apple Store to complain yet (hoping software would fix it)





Here are the main problems:





i) Dropped calls (less but still persist in 2.2)


ii) Call Failed Msg (comes up sporadically when i try to dial out)


iii) Weird noises while on call and receiving data


iv) NO SIM Msg (comes up randomly on the screen and I have to pull the sim out and put it back to get the phone working)


v) Work emails/calendar fail to sync randomly.





I have never unlocked my phone or did any mods to it.





I am planning to make an appointment at the Apple Store this week, but would appreciate any advice/comments from people who have already tried getting replacements from Apple.





P.S. I am in Toronto, Canada. But as far as i know with ATT (USA) and Rogers/Fido (Canada), you have to go to the Apple store for service.

Lately Ive been having call failed issues with my iPhone. Normally I havent had a single issue until the last 3 days, now Im getting it more than usual. Ive been having issues it seems as I pass into the area of 275 and busch. Any thoughts?

Emergency Mode?

I turned the iPhone off. Put it on the table, face down.


Next morning, I turn it on, screen shows picture of USB cable %26amp; an arrow, indicating that the phone should be plugged into iTunes, %26amp; an oblong window read something on the lines of %26quot;slide to make an emergency call%26quot;.


I plugged phone into iTunes, %26amp; screen indicated that the phone has been activated...


This has happened two times in a row so far.


What gives?

My friend wants to get a iPhone but he wants to ask if his Rogers Pay As You Go Sim Card will work on the iPhone. She said she doesn't want to pay for the data plan so she will be using just the voice talk only and the WIFI function. Is this possible? Any restrictions toward this?

just bought iphone 3g. how do i change my plan?

I just purchased the iPhone 3g from a friend of mine that went back to t-mobile. I am an at%26amp;t subscriber and have the original iPhone. I know that the iPhone 3g requires a $30 data plan but how do I go about changing this on my plan? Right now I am paying $20 since i have the original iPhone and when I log into my account online and change my device to the iPhone 3g I do not see an option that lets me pick the $30 data plan required for the 3g. Also, since I bought the phone from a friend will I have to extend my contract for another 2 years?

I found in the week I have had the thing I have sold all my other phones except for my Japanese phones.





But in the event I did not have them, I would have kept at least one or two other phones as back up should something happen to the iphone and I needed a phone quick or needed to send the Apple out for work.

New iPhone user - delayed ring, normal?

My wife and I just got 3G iPhones with AT%26amp;T service and have noticed a delay before the iPhone will start to ring then we were use to with other carriers/phones.





Just to be clear, when I call my cell from my landline (with my cell in my hand), the landline will be on its 2nd or 3rd ring before the iPhone will begin to ring.





This can't be normal can it?

Anyone here us mobile me?

If so, do you find that it's worth the yearly fee? Can you use more than one email address with it? I'm tempted but the fee is what's stopping me...





also, since itunes only does outlook calendars, does mobile me expand on this and allow you to use, say, google calendars?

Field Test Mode Before/After 2.1 posts go Here

I'm starting a thread because it's been asked a lot in the large 2.1 thread.





Here, can anyone who still has pre-2.1 go into field test mode and write down the signal strength number you see. Then after getting 2.1 do the same and write the number down keeping the phone in the same spot (you may like to do multiple spots).





I'm currently at work and will not be updating for a bit so I can't post anything but preliminary numbers which are not helpful.





Only posts with numbers please so we don't all have to weave through the posts to get the information.

Making Apple re-think their Plans for Iphone

Hey have anyone really thought about how much trouble it is to get the Iphone to function like a regular cell phone???





1.) MMS(swirlymms app)-$5 or $6 bucks


2.) Irealsms-for forwarding text mssgs and using landscape-$10 or $12 bucks


3.) Snapture-picture zoom, different camera options-$5 or $6 bucks


4.) Ad2p- Hmmmm not yet





All I'm saying is if enough people lets say boycott Apple maybe they will re think their next Iphone production I know its a hassle to get MMS to work I've tried and to be honest we all deserve better but if we keep on supporting Apple they will keep on releasing Iphones with the missing main features of a regular cell phone and by the time you buy this app and that app you've pretty much bought another cell phone.

iphone MAIL

I'm trying to set up my e-mail on my new iphone 3g.





I want to just use ONLY GMAIL as my MAIL account. I noticed when I set up MAIL with my gmail account, I get like a GMAIL subfolder underneath all the MAIL main folders. Is there anyway to just dedicate the MAIL app to strictly GMAIL instead of having so many folders subfolders?

can i use itunes store to download apps on jailbroken phone?

I don't have iphone 3G data but was wondering - would I be able to download applications using apple store/itunes ? I have a jailbroken phone.

New iPhone Quicktime problems

I just bought an 8G refurb for my wife. Will be delivered Tuesday. Trying to install iTunes and Quicktime on her computer I got the following message...Cannot remove previous version of Quicktime. So it wont install iTunes and without iTunes I can't activate the phone and sync it. I am on a PC running windows XP Home. I found the Quicktime folder but it would not delete. I deleted the files in the folder OK but even empty it wont delete. Went into registry and deleted everything Quicktime. Tried to install again and got the same message. Anyone have an idea of how to remove Quicktime????

Ok, what use is backing up?

I jailbroke my iPhone this afternoon, then I restored the software and chose the option to restore from a backup. When it completed, the only thing restored was the different pages, but only the native apps were there. None of the ringtones, pictures, settings or apps were restored.





My question is if in this situation I have to resync, then what good is the backup? I'm sure i've lost the information included in apps like my workout and poker tracker. I just don't understand this at all.





That being said, I still love my iPhone.

Remotely Check Voicemail

Hey guys I was just curious... I have done a search and have found people saying opposing things but basically I am wondering, if my phone is out of coverage (ie. the visual voicemail never gets delivered) or I left my phone at home (ie. the visual voicemail gets delivered but not listened to, or listened to by someone else but not me)... is it possible to call my voicemail and check my messages in all of these instances? And if so is it just calling your phone number and pressing star and entering your password? This is for a 3g if I could please have someone that is positive and has done this recently that would be great.

In search of free mp3 sites

i am looking for a place to look for mp3's, free preferably. i have garageband and want to download mp3's so I can make my own ringtones. I have found lots of free ringtones, but they come in as mp4's and go right into the ringtone folder and i then cannot manipulate them how I want. Any direction is most appreciated.

Black Screen of Death (3g)

Hey guys, got a problem that i couldnt find using the search function.





Basically, my phone just turned to a black screen and i cant do anything to get it back to normal. This has happened to me once before about a month ago.





I try hooking it up to a power source and nothing happens. The phone makes a noise to acknowledge the connection, but no screen is visible. I tried doing a hard shut down, but that doesnt seem to do anything.





Has anyone experienced this before? How do i remedy this?

Can anybody tell me which plan works well with my iphone. Tmobile got rid of t-Zones and besides that it was slow. Which internet package should I ask for with my iphone and what are the settings for the internet????

New 3G owner

I just purchased an iPhone 3G less than a week ago and i'm very impressed. The App store is a great feature and the internet pretty fast. My only gripe is the poor battery life, which i understand could be from constantly playing with the phone..so i'm having to charge it daily . i have not yet upgraded to 2.2 yet, but i heard doing so might improve battery life. is this true?

Okay, though I really liked my iPhone in it's virgin state of 2.2, I decided to try jailbreaking it and then adding howardforumsus. My problem is that every dang app I try to install, either times out during the d/l or it is not available any longer from the d/l site. Is this normal?





And here's a new one. After d/l one app, rapidshare says I have reached the d/l limit. This seems extremely tedious.

I wondered if there's anything that you all would like to see changed with the FAQ. Are there any recurring threads here as of late that maybe could be lessened if there was something in the FAQ? iphone coming to verizon in 09

I stumbled on a bunch of articles talking about current negotiations between apple and verizon and also found that apple had job openings for EVDO engineers. Apparently the contract att has with apple for sole rights to the iphone was only for 2 years... Man I hope it's true. Has anyone else heard anything?

Google maps not loading Correctly?

Lately it seems that google maps is having a hard time. When zooming in and out of area it frequently gets stuck and I and up seeing a checkered pattern of the same section of the map. Anything I can do besides rebooting the phone?





On a realated rant why the heck cant I download maps to my phone? Why is apple against this? If Garmin can fit north american maps on a 2Gig memory card why cant they have something for IPhones? The Rogers network is no where good enough in Nova Scotia to be able to download maps on the highway.





The only good news is that if you set up directions to and from somewhere the phone can display the purple route. So I can match the blue dot to the purple line but its all on gray background.
